The audience at last night's Town of Mamaroneck Board of Trustees meeting was unusually young. More importantly, though, it was thankful, and not afraid to show it.

Members of Chabad Lubavitch of Larchmont & Mamaroneck's Teens for the Community group gathered on Wednesday night to express their appreciation to those they think make this community a better place. They did so by making their own certificates and presenting them to Town Supervisor Valerie O'Keeffe and members of the police and fire departments.

Rabbi Mendel Silberstein began by introducing the group, which is based on community service, and offering a prayer on behalf of everyone suffering in Haiti.

Josh and Sam Saideman, Joey Kaplan and Jon Pomeranz came up to the podium and gave their first certificate to O'Keeffe for all she does leading the town and the community, they said.

"You out of everybody showed us the hand of support when we started this organization," Rabbi Silberstein said.

O'Keeffe accepted the certificate on behalf of the entire board and thanked the organization for being a "good model for all of us."

Town of Mamaroneck Police Chief Richard Rivera, along with Youth Officer Reynolds and Officer Ruy, accepted the second certificate. They were thanked for putting their lives at risk for the community.

"We are so lucky to live in a community with such a dedicated police force," they said.

Last, but not least, the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department's 1st Deputy Chief Brendan Collins and 2nd Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Russo accepted the third certificate.

"Without you our town would not be as safe as it is," the kids said.
